For almost two decades, Murray Street has made Paul Winter's Winter
Solstice Celebration a holiday tradition on NPR stations around
the country. Each December, saxophonist Paul Winter gathers his Consort and musicians
from around the globe gather in The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, to celebrate the passing of the longest night of year.
The newest Solstice Celebration, hosted once again by John Schaefer, features gospel singer Theresa Thomason, Russian Village traditions from Dmitri Pokrovsky Ensemble,"Icarus" double reed man Paul McCandless and the thundering Cathedral Pipe Organ.
Past artists to join Paul Winter through this night include: Irish piper Davy Spillane, Grateful Dead drummer
Mickey Hart, folksinger Susan Osborn, and the legendary Pete Seeger.
